Onboarding Wizard - Service Areas, Business Hours and Sales Tax
Three steps in the onboarding wizard are required before you can finish setup: Service Areas, Business Hours and Sales Tax. Together they create your first business location, set when you operate, and record whether you collect sales tax. This guide walks through each form and says what it saves.
Before you start
Have your business address, your usual operating days and hours, and your answer on sales tax ready. If you collect tax, know the state and the state rate you charge, and any local or city rate. This guide describes what to enter, and does not tell you what your rate should be.
Steps
Start from the checklist (choose Resume setup in the top bar) and use Configure on each card.
Service Areas (page title "Define Your Service Areas")
- Under Primary Business Location, fill in Location Name (it starts as "Main Office") and the address. The address is required.
- Under Service Coverage, choose Service Radius (miles): 10, 15, 25, 50, 75 or 100 miles. It starts at 25.
- Optionally, under Specific Service Areas (Optional), enter ZIP Codes separated by commas or new lines. Your own location's ZIP code is always included.
- Choose Save & Continue →. This creates or updates your primary location and its coverage, and returns you to the checklist. Use ← Back to leave without saving.
Business Hours (page title "Configure Business Hours")
- The page names the location it is configuring, which is your first location. Hours are saved on that location.
- Choose Start Day and End Day under Business Days. They start at Monday and Friday.
- Set Opening Time and Closing Time. They start at 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
- Choose Appointment Buffer (minutes): No buffer, 15, 30 or 45 minutes, or 1 hour. A Schedule Preview line updates as you change values.
- Choose Save & Continue →. Manage Locations opens Locations & Service Areas if you need to change the location itself.
Sales Tax (page title "Set Up Sales Tax")
- Under Do you collect sales tax?, choose Yes — use rates I configure or No — my business does not collect sales tax. The second choice is an account-wide decision: new estimates and invoices charge no tax.
- If you chose Yes, enter Rate Name, pick the State, and enter State Tax Rate (%). Local / City Rate (%) is optional.
- Choose Save Sales Tax Setup. Choosing Yes creates a statewide tax zone with your state rate. If you also gave a local rate, a second zone based on your business ZIP code carries the state and local rates together.
Tips
- The tax step uses the state from your business address when it can, so complete Service Areas first.
- Saving sales tax records your decision. Rates for other states, state registrations and filing records are separate; the checklist then offers Rates and taxability, States you collect in, Tax registrations and Filing report. The sales tax guides cover them.
- Service radius and ZIP coverage are explained further in the guides on locations and service areas.
If something goes wrong
- "Failed to save service areas. Please try again." or "Failed to save business hours. Please try again." means the save did not go through; check the entries and save again.
- Business Hours needs a location. If it reports that no location was found, complete Service Areas first.
- If you chose Yes on sales tax, "Enter the state tax rate you collect." and "Please select a state." mean those fields are empty. "Failed to save sales-tax setup. Please try again." means the save failed.
