The Onboarding Wizard - Steps, Order and Progress
The onboarding wizard is the guided setup a new provider works through after registering. It is one checklist page that lists every setup step in order, marks what is finished, and sends you to a short form for each step that needs one. This guide explains what the checklist contains, which steps are required, and how your setup progress is shown.
Before you start
The wizard is included in every plan. Opening it, and saving any of its steps, needs permission to manage settings. Someone without that permission is sent to an access page instead, so the person who registered the business, or a Provider Administrator, normally does the setup.
Steps
- Open the checklist. While setup is unfinished, a bar across the top of your provider pages reads "Finish setting up your business to start using ServiceVisit." with a percentage and a Resume setup button. Choose Resume setup.
- Read the page titled Welcome to ServiceVisit! The Setup Progress bar shows a percentage. Under it, "Next step:" names the next required step still open.
- Work down the cards, which appear in this order:
- Business Profile is already finished from registration. Review opens your Company settings.
- Branding is Optional.
- Service Areas is Required.
- Business Hours is Required.
- Sales Tax is Required.
- Team Members is Optional.
- Set Up Online Payments is Optional.
- On an unfinished card, choose Configure (or Invite for Team Members, Set up now for payments). Each opens its own form or settings page.
- When a card is finished it gets a green check and its button changes to Review, which opens the full settings page for that topic rather than the setup form.
- When Service Areas, Business Hours and Sales Tax are all finished, the bottom of the page shows Required Steps Complete and a Complete Setup button. See the guide on optional steps and finishing for what happens next.
How progress is counted
The percentage counts four items, each worth a quarter: Business Profile, Service Areas, Business Hours and Sales Tax. Business Profile is already counted when you arrive, so a new account starts at 25%. Branding, Team Members and Online Payments are optional and never raise or lower the percentage.
The "Next step" line only ever names a required step. Once all required steps are done it is replaced by "Required setup is ready to finish." The banner percentage is kept in step with the percentage on this page, and the banner disappears after you choose Complete Setup.
Tips
- The required steps are best done in the order shown. Business Hours are stored on your location, so the location from Service Areas has to exist first.
- A step can be revisited at any time. Choosing Review on a finished card does not undo it.
- Each step has its own guide: see the required steps guide for Service Areas, Business Hours and Sales Tax, and the optional steps guide for Branding, Team Members and Online Payments.
If something goes wrong
If the page shows "Failed to load onboarding status" or "An error occurred loading onboarding status", your setup progress could not be read. Nothing you finished has been lost. Choose Try again. If you are sent to an access page instead of the checklist, your role does not include permission to manage settings; ask whoever administers your users.
