Approving or Declining an Estimate Online

When a provider sends you an estimate, you can review it and respond from your own estimate page. You can approve it, sign to approve it, or decline it. Your approval is saved as a record of what you were shown and how you accepted, so both you and the provider can refer back to it.

Before you start

  • Open the estimate from your list of estimates. My Estimates shows counts for Pending Review, Approved, Declined and Expired.
  • You can respond only while the estimate is waiting for your decision. After that, the page shows what happened instead.
  • If a Valid Until date is close, a notice says the estimate expires soon.

Steps: approve

  1. Open the estimate and review the line items and the total.
  2. Some lines may be marked Optional or Decision. Tick the box beside each item you want included. Optional items and choices are included only when ticked, and your selections are confirmed when you approve.
  3. Under Respond to Estimate, choose how to approve:
    • Select Quick Approve to approve with one click. This button appears only when the provider does not require a signature for an estimate of this size.
    • Select Sign to Approve to sign. When the provider requires a signature, the page tells you that the estimate totals a stated amount, so your signature is required.
  4. If you chose to sign, read the statement in the Sign to Approve Estimate window, sign with your mouse or finger, and select Approve with Signature. Clear lets you start again.

If you select Approve with Signature without signing, the page asks you to provide your signature before submitting.

Steps: decline

  1. Under Respond to Estimate, open Decline Estimate.
  2. Optionally explain why in the box that asks you to tell the provider. Examples shown include cost or needing different options.
  3. Select Decline Estimate.

Declining closes this estimate. The provider can send you a revised one if your needs change.

After you respond

The page shows a status message: that you approved the estimate on a date, that you declined it on a date, or that it expired. If the provider asked for a deposit once approved, a Deposit Required card appears with a Pay Deposit button; when it is paid, the card reads Deposit Paid.

Tips

  • The signature statement you see is saved with your approval, with its version.
  • For questions about the estimate, contact the provider directly; the page has a Need Help? card saying so.

If something goes wrong

  • If Quick Approve is not shown, a signature is required; use Sign to Approve.
  • If you see that the estimate expired or is no longer available, ask the provider to send a new one.
  • If the page says the estimate could not be found, you may not have permission to view it.
