Seeing Where Your Bookings Came From

Attribution answers a simple question: which channels brought you the work that actually got booked and paid for. It has three tabs, Setup, Activity and Performance. This guide covers the two you read, Performance and Activity. Performance shows where your bookings came from and what that work was worth. Activity shows what happened to each conversion report sent back to an advertising platform.

Before you start

  • Open Attribution in the Price Book menu, next to Booking Link. You need permission to view attribution; if the item is missing, ask whoever manages your team's roles.
  • Performance is useful as soon as customers book, even if you never connect an ad account. Activity only fills in once a destination is set up on the Setup tab (see the connecting guide).

Steps

  1. Open Attribution and select the Performance tab.
  2. Under Period, choose Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days or Last year. The page reloads for that period.
  3. Read the Where your work came from table. Each row is a channel and campaign, with Requests, Accepted, Completed and Revenue. The Total row at the bottom adds them up.
  4. Look at the channel names. They tell you how the customer reached you: ServiceVisit marketplace, Your booking link, A service link, Your website widget, QR code scan, Customer portal or Public booking API. Entered by your team (not a marketing channel) is work your own staff keyed in, so do not read it as advertising.
  5. Select the Activity tab to see conversion reports. Use Show to filter to Everything, Reported, Failed, Not from an ad or Waiting to send, and Per page for 25, 50 or 100 rows. Use Newer and Older to page.
  6. Each row shows When, the Booking (select View booking to open the request), Sent to, Outcome and Value.
  7. For a failed row that offers Try again, select it. The conversion is queued and sent within a few minutes. Retrying needs permission to manage attribution.

Tips

  • Read across to the Revenue column. A channel that sends fifty enquiries that never book is worth less than one that sends five jobs.
  • Your numbers will not match an advertising platform exactly. ServiceVisit counts your bookings and your paid invoices. The platform counts clicks it can match to a conversion, using its own rules and windows. Both are right about different things.
  • Below the table, the page tells you how many bookings did not come from a tracked ad in that period, such as word of mouth, repeat customers or direct visits. They are counted in the table but cannot be tied to a campaign.
  • The outcome labels mean: Reported (the platform accepted it), Not from an ad (nothing to report, and nothing wrong; most bookings look like this), Different platform (the booking came from another of your ad platforms, so look on that platform's rows), Failed (something stopped it; the note beside it says what to do) and Waiting to send (queued, sent every few minutes).
  • Read the Activity tab regularly. Because "Not from an ad" is normal, a genuine Failed row is the one to act on.

If something goes wrong

  • If Performance says No bookings in this period, no requests arrived in the chosen dates. Try a longer period.
  • If it says it could not be loaded, refresh the page.
  • If Activity says there is no conversion activity yet, either no destination is set up or no booking from an ad has turned into work. Check the Setup tab.
  • If a Failed row's note mentions reconnecting, widening your attribution window or checking the URL, fix that on the Setup tab, then return and select Try again.
  • If Try again reports that a conversion cannot be retried, that row is not eligible for another attempt.
