Connecting Ad Accounts and Conversion Reporting

When a booking that came from an ad turns into work, ServiceVisit tells the advertising platform, so it can find you more customers like that one. The report is sent from ServiceVisit's servers, nothing is added to your booking page, and customer names, emails, phone numbers and addresses are never sent. You set this up as a destination on the Setup tab of Attribution.

Before you start

  • You need permission to manage attribution. Without it you can see the destinations list but not add, edit or remove one.
  • For Google Ads, first create a conversion action in your Google Ads account and note its name exactly.
  • For Meta, have your dataset (pixel) ID and an access token from Meta Events Manager. Generate the token under your dataset's Settings.
  • Decide what counts as a success. Platforms buy more of whatever you report: report paid work and they look for customers who pay.

Steps

  1. Open Attribution and stay on the Setup tab.
  2. In Add a destination, under Where should conversions go?, choose Google Ads, Meta (Facebook & Instagram) or Somewhere else with a tracking URL.
  3. Under Which traffic should this receive?, choose Google Ads traffic, Meta (Facebook & Instagram) traffic, Microsoft Advertising traffic, Somewhere else — I'll tag the links myself or Every conversion, wherever it came from. A booking is reported only to the platform that produced it. A Meta destination always receives Meta traffic.
  4. If you chose the tagged option, enter a Scope tag (letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores) and add that tag to the booking links you give that platform as a scope parameter. Google, Meta and Microsoft tag their own clicks, so no tag is needed for them.
  5. Give it a Name so you can tell destinations apart.
  6. Under Count a conversion when, choose The invoice is paid — recommended, The job is completed, You accept the request or The customer submits the request.
  7. Under Value to report, choose The job's actual amount or A fixed amount per conversion. For the fixed option, enter the Fixed amount.
  8. For Google Ads, type the Google Ads conversion action name exactly as it is in Google Ads. Google rejects the whole import if it does not match.
  9. For Meta, enter the Meta dataset (pixel) ID and Meta access token. The token is hidden after saving; leave the box blank when editing unless you are replacing it.
  10. For a tracking URL, enter the Tracking URL (it must be a secure address), the Request type (GET or POST), a Body format, and the fields under What to send. Placeholders such as the click ID, value, currency, request ID, campaign and time can be used.
  11. Set Attribution window (days), between 1 and 90. It defaults to 90 so slower, larger jobs are still counted.
  12. Leave Send conversions to this endpoint ticked, then select Save. To test a tracking URL first, select Check URL; it shows what would be sent and sends nothing.
  13. For Google Ads, copy Your Google Ads import URL with Copy. In Google Ads go to Tools, Conversions, Uploads, Schedule, choose HTTPS, paste the URL and set Daily. Conversions are saved either way but only counted once you do this.

Tips

  • Use Edit on a row to change a destination, Remove to delete it, and untick the send box to turn it off.
  • A Google row shows when Google last collected the file. Generate a new URL replaces the address; the old one stops working immediately, so paste the new one into Google Ads.
  • The Status column shows Connected, Active, Finish setup in Google Ads, Not being collected, Expiring soon, Expired — reconnect, Access revoked or Turned off.
  • Choose Every conversion, wherever it came from only for your own systems, such as a spreadsheet or CRM.

If something goes wrong

  • If Finish setup in Google Ads or Not being collected shows, the schedule in Google Ads is missing or stopped. Set it up again with the current import URL.
  • If Save shows an error, read the message; it names the problem, such as a window out of range or an address that is not allowed.
  • If a status says Expired — reconnect or Access revoked, replace the Meta token or reconnect the account.
  • Failed conversions can be retried from the Activity tab.
