Recording Equipment You Installed Yourself
If you installed equipment yourself, or it came with your property, you can record it in your Property Passport without a provider. The entry is marked Customer DIY, which means it is your own unverified record. This guide covers recording a system installation from a property you have claimed.
Before you start
Sign in to your customer account and claim the property. Only the customer who claimed a property can record installations on it. If you have not claimed one yet, see the guide on getting started.
Steps
- Open My Properties in the left menu and select your property.
- Under the property's actions, select Record System Installation. You can also open Service History for the property, select Record Event, then System Installation.
- Choose a System Type, such as HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical. This is required. If yours is not listed, select Request a taxonomy update.
- Optionally choose an Equipment Type. This classifies the installation for reporting and service history.
- Optionally choose a Manufacturer and a Model. Use the search boxes to narrow the lists. If you do not know either, tick I do not know the manufacturer or I do not know the model family. You can then type what appears on the equipment label under Manufacturer text or Model family text.
- Optionally add an Asset Name, a Serial Number and a Display Name. A display name helps tell apart several systems of the same type.
- Set the Installation Date. This is required and starts as today.
- Optionally add a Warranty Expiration Date and Installation Notes.
- Select Record Installation. You return to the property's Service History with a confirmation.
Tips
- If a property has no systems yet, its page shows Add your first system. That opens a shorter form called Record Installation, where Display Name and Installation Date are required, and which also asks for a system type and equipment type.
- Partial details are fine. If a label is missing or unreadable, choose unknown and continue. A provider can add manufacturer and model details later.
- Notes can be up to 2000 characters on Record System Installation, and up to 1000 on Record Installation.
- Your entry is not certified. You can later share it with a provider you are connected to and ask them to certify it. See the guide on service history and trust levels.
If something goes wrong
- If you see "Property not found or you don't have access", the property is not one you have claimed.
- If you see "You don't have permission to record installations for this property", claim the property first.
- If you choose a model without a manufacturer, you are asked to select a manufacturer first.
- If you fill in a manufacturer, model, asset name or serial number without an equipment type, you are asked to select an equipment type.
- If the system was recorded but the equipment details were not, you see a warning that the asset classification could not be saved. The installation itself is kept.
